ON SELF-RELIANCE PART 2
Emerson talked about how we don't know what we can do until we try it. I agree with that, most of the time we say " I can't do that" when we have never tired it before at all. He also mentioned how we are ashamed of the best part of us, at school we only show the part that we need to show. Like the part of us that gets us awards and good grades. We don't fully express ourselves at school , there's that side of us we are ashamed of, that we don't want to show to get in trouble. Emerson was celebrating us being different and our thoughts. He thought that we are not our best selves if we do not believe. We are champions of our own self. As an adult we might feel judged and rejected. Emerson said " The virtue in most request is conformity." Which meant that the high standards in most request is compliance with rules and laws. I agree what he has been saying all along, his point of views back then are from us now. We all don't believe in ourselves because we fear being judged. We are all different in our own ways and we should be accepted, our thoughts and ideas are valuable.
