NO GUTS NO GLORY

I think Montag's decision to read books was with the risk, because he gets to learn things, and have more knowledge than everyone else. He get's to explore his mind and find more new personal interest. He is going to be set free from that dystopia, everyone there is like controlled and they don't have a social life.  Montag gets to experience stuff others are not going to get the chance to do.

JOURNAL 4/13/20

During this pandemic, it's been really different. Before we used to not pay attention to what we touched or even did. Now I can see that we are all being more careful on who we are around with and what we touch.  This pandemic has brought us more knowledge, and has made us more careful of our surroundings. I feel like after this is all over, people aren't going to be the same anymore, they are going to be scared to get near people. I feel like now that this happened they are now learning how it affects all of us. We are learning how to work as a team right now. It is kind of crazy how all of this changed so fast, without a warning or anything. Never would we have ever thought that in 2020 we would all be stuck at home quarantined scared to even go out. It's pretty scary seeing it on the news all the time, and seeing the deaths rise each day.

THE GLORY OF THE MISTAKE

When we make mistakes we think of it as a bad thing, but in reality when we make mistakes we learn from them.  We learn on the things we need to work on, and the things we are good at.

A CASE FOR WAR?

I believe that people start this violence because they want what we want, they are jealous of what we have. People just do it because they are going through  things, and have mental problems. People just really do not care about others. Sometimes their past can cause this anger on others, that they want to take it out on them.

MURDER JUST BECAUSE

I believe murder is not justified, I mean sure the person should pay for what they did wrong. But, taking someone's life is not our decision to make and something we shouldn't do. The person should pay the consequences by going to jail or something. But by killing someone that's just wrong, you will obviously feel the guilt soon. You won't be able to be in peace knowing you killed someone. Even if you are really angry, and the person did something terrible their life shouldn't be a punishment. They should pay by going to prison for the rest of their lives.  I think that something that can motivate someone in real life, to murder someone, is by taking away the things they love the most. Sometimes if you do that it hurts them painfully and mentally they get out of control.

FAILING TO PLAN IS PLANNING TO FAIL

Faber and Montag, make a plan to plant books in every fireman's homes so that they could get arrested. They plan to take down the oppressive system. I believe that they will fail, and then get caught and get in trouble. I think it will be hard for them to plant stuff to get the fireman's arrested, I mean it's the government, I believe it would be pretty hard to fool them.

SOMETIMES YOU NEED A PROFESSOR

Montag gets in touch with Faber because he wanted to seek knowledge about books. He also wants to get a second copy of the stolen book before he gives it back to Captain Beatty.

IS IT JUST ABOUT THE JOB?

I believe that it is difficult for Montag to do what fireman  are supposed to do for a living because he has never really seen fireman do that. And in that dystopian world you get in trouble for reading. I think that Montag burning books isn't a good thing because he is burning knowledge. I believe doing something that hurts other people is not good, because I don't like doing something that could hurt someone. It's like if someone hurt  me, I would not like it. I think there are other important values in life other than a paycheck. A paycheck is just a number, and someone's feelings are much bigger than a paycheck.

THIS CAT IS CURIOUS

I believe curiosity is influenced by both our personality and culture. We get curious to know more about stuff, sometimes our personality has a lot to do with it because we get curious on the stuff that interests us. For example, our likes in dislikes.  The cat gets curious enough to take the risk, when we are really interest in something and want to find out what will happen if we knew what it was about. I am not really sure on how to explain it.

MY INNER HAPPY

I believe that some of us do find happiness in entertainment, sports, and food. But, there are also others that find fun in learning. Entertainment, sports, and food aren't always what makes people happy. Socializing makes people happy too.  The world doesn't just revolve in sports and entertainment, there is so much more to it. We all have different things that makes us happy.

ANTI-INTELLECTUALISM IN AMERICA

Sometimes slowing people down and making them think can make them be sad and even start a conflict, but that's not always the case. Slowing people down and making them think can be a good thing for them because they get to discover a new part of themselves they have not yet discovered. Letting people think can make them explore their minds and try new things. I believe people don't really think of intelligence as a superpower because they think that anyone can think that way if they try. Many people do not really pay attention to intelligence, because they have technology to help them.  Lots of people criticize and insult those who use their brains because they believe, that just because they are smart they have no social life.  Or that they spend to much time actually learning instead of doing the fun stuff. I believe that we are halfway to where Ray Bradbury feared on us not reading and just relying on technology. Half of us now rely on technology to know the answer, since so many of us have access to it. We sometimes don't even think to ourselves, we rely on Siri or Google. This world is becoming just like the book  Fahrenheit 451  by Ray Bradbury.

UNITED WE STAND?

Independence is important when we are trying to work for ourselves, and take care of ourselves. We can't always just depend on others. Independence is also important when we are trying make decisions for ourselves. Interdependence is important when we need someone to help us on somethings, like a two people job. We don't always need to depend on others, we can just do things ourselves if we are willing to try.

IS IT ME?

A lot of our behavior is influenced by our culture. We see and hear things everyday on our beliefs. Our beliefs can sometimes limit us to do certain things, for example what we wear. Our personalities can also come from our culture, but also on what we see in the everyday world. People try changing who they are to fit in .

BOOKS & NEW TECH

Many people in today's society do not really like reading. they mostly rely on technology to do the thinking for them. I mean it's good that we have technology to help us solve some things, but we should not rely on that. Sometimes technology doesn't have the right answers to your questions. We should read more, because that way we get more knowledge of stuff. We also get to see more things explained in detail in a book, and in a different point of view. I believe that reading a book is more better because we actually get a thorough explanation and more details, online we just get summarized versions and they don't even sometimes make sense.

WHY I WORK

I care enough to work for my family and my education. I work hard everyday so I can make my family proud. I also work hard everyday so I can get a good career and earn enough money to take care of myself. If I did not work at all, and did not try my best at anything. I would just be letting myself down and my family down.

WHAT ARE WE LEARNING NOW?

As we do online school, it feels like what Clarisse from the book Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, is going through. We just sit around and look a video lessons. Although we are gaining lots of knowledge from this unlike Clarisse. I believe this online school thing would lead to some of us becoming lazy, because we have no one pressuring us to do the work. I believe that many of us would want to do school this way, and then we would transform to online school. Then we would end up like Fahrenheit 451 where the world revolves around only technology.  At least we are gaining knowledge from all of this, and learning to do new things, and practice new skills.

THE RIGHT TO READ

I believe the banning of books was a terrible mistake. Americans need to read in order to gain knowledge and help make this world a better place. Banning books would just make everything a disaster because we would not have the knowledge to make stuff including technology. We need our rights to read. Reading can increase our knowledge and the way we look at things. Just looking at technology and not being able to read to access information, would just make Americans lazy. Everyone gets their information through reading, reading is a part of life. If we can't read this world cannot function because we wouldn't get the information we need. Reading is required in many things, we read everyday. We read newspapers, articles, and even things on television. No matter what, we need reading in our daily lives. So banning books is just a terrible mistake and only going to make this world a terrible place, with people who have no knowledge of anything.

F451 & ME

The book Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, relates to modern America. Some us do not even stop to look around, and think to ourselves. We are too busy using technology to even look at our surroundings, sometimes we don't even socialize with others. We just do it through our phones, technology has taken over some of us.  Clarisse can relate to some of us, because we actually pay attention to our surroundings and think. Montag can be like some of us because we don't stop to think to ourselves . The dystopian world can relate to modern America because half of us in this world can be unhappy.

F451 SUMMARY PART I

So far what we have read in the book Fahrenheit 451 by Ray Bradbury, is about a character named Guy Montag. He is a firefighter who starts fires instead of stopping them. He burns book. This book is about a dystopian world, people in this book do not really have a lot of knowledge. They are just basically people who are addict4ed to technology and don't think. It seems to be that these people are not really happy.

In this book Montag meets a girl named Clarisse, he found her walking around. She was different than the others because she actually thought. She is not like everyone who actually does not stop and think about things. Clarisse isn't afraid of Montag like everyone else would be. In fact, she questioned him on whether or not he was even happy. Which actually made Montag react, he doesn't know if he is happy or not. Clarisse's family actually talks to each other unlike other families who barley say a word.

Montag has a wife named Mildred, she is a person who only thinks about herself. She is always wearing he seashells. They sleep in different beds, they are married but don't have a lot of communication like a normal relationship would. Their house is full of technology. Mildred overdosed with medication, but it seems to happen a lot in that world because the doctors said it was normal. They were not even worried, it tells a lot about the world they live in. It seems to be that people living there are unhappy.

451 QUESTIONS, 20 ANSWERS

1. I believe the author chose the "The Hearth and the Salamander”  as a title because I think he connected it to Montag because he sets fires instead of putting them out.
2. The assumptions the reader can make is that the protagonist, likes to burn stuff. To see things change.
3. I think the imagery is negative, because the fire hose is spitting acid like a snake; a venomous snake.
4. I think 451 is a burins post, in which books run in that temperature. Because paper burns at that point.
5. Clarisse actually thinks, she walks around actually looking around. Her house lights are on because her family actually talks. She is odd because she knows things.
6. The names are significant because the name clarisse is translated into like clear, which is what her mind is like. The name Guy means Monday in German, which is the beginning of a new week.
7. She questions if Montag is happy. Montag says he is happy, he doesn't really stop to think he just responds fast.
8. 3 odd things is that, people don't walk around, no ones lights are on the only light is from their TV, and no one really talks at home.
9. He thinks Clarisse is odd because she thinks, and actually has conversations.
10. Montag realizes he isn't happy because his smile fades away.
11. Seashells in the book are like the AirPods we have now, they allow you to listen to things. Mildred, Montag's wife uses them to listen to things.
12. Clarisse is different because she seems like a calm girl who thinks outside the box and cares about others , unlike Mildred she seems like serious person who is self centered.

CUE THEME MUSIC

In our English class we were asked to think about the central message of the book The great Gatsby. Each one of our groups had different perspectives, so here is mine. I believe the central message of the book called The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, is how people in the society are all messed up to get what they can't have. They try so hard to get everything they can, just like Gatsby trying to get back Daisy, Tom cheating on Daisy and having two women by his side, like Jordan baker cheating on a golf tournament just to win .  They were all messed up, they were all liars and cheaters. This relates to the American dream, on how people do whatever they can to get what they want. They can even lie or cheat to have everything.

PREVIEW OF GATSBY ESSAY

As I read the book The Great Gatsby by F. Scott Fitzgerald, I saw how Gatsby's character reflected on Americans today. The way they described his desire to be with Daisy. It is similar to how Americans would do anything to get what they want. Its a way of desire, the way we all want things and think we can get it easily if we could just change the past. We Americans have an obsession to get what we want, and we think we could get it easily.  Gatsby does symbolize our American culture, he is just like us we all want things in life.

Gatsby just wanted to get everything he wanted  by using his money. He thought money was gong to get him what he wanted. Americans also think that, they think that money can solve all their problems in the world. But I believe that money is just money it sometimes cannot get you what you want in life. We are all ambitious to get everything in life. We might go through some struggles to get what we want but we try everything. Gatsby was one those people, he got money and thought it was going to get easy from there that Daisy was going to back with him easily. But he fell for that trap, Daisy at the end of the day didn't even love him anymore. He ended up dying being in love, thinking that if he could of just tried harder he would get her, that she still loved him, that what she said was not true. Money there, did not solve his ambition for love.

Americans in today's society can get what they want with money, but not always. You see, there is always going to be a struggle in life, and getting what you want is definitely harder than it seems.  I don't know why Gatsby thought it was going to be easy with the money he had. People just used him, he didn't even have anybody who really cared about him. In today's society people use you for your money so they can get what they want in life. In the same way I feel like Daisy wanted to use Gatsby, but now that she realized what she actually wanted in life, she realized she did not want Gatsby.  Gatsby was just a toy for her, she played with his feelings and told him she loved him. But Gatsby still did not understand, for some reason he thought Daisy would go back to him.

Daisy and Gatsby represent the ambitions of society today because they think getting what they want will be easy.  Everybody in this world just wants money and think that will buy them happiness. I think that's what Gatsby thought, that money would buy him happiness with Daisy. All Daisy thought about was herself. All she cared about was herself, which represents the selfishness of the society today. People in this society just think about themselves and not about the others. There is also people who make others clean up their mess, which is what Daisy does. This shows how society can be messed up just like the book "The Great Gatsby".

Overall,  the character Gatsby from the book "The Great Gatsby" reflects on American's dreams and society. It also shows how we Americans can be selfish and ambitious, and how we try to get what we want. It also shows how we think money can solve all of our problems in life.

GATSBY PROMPTS FURTHER THINKING

What is so Great about Daisy? Is she even worth everything Gatsby s going through to get her back? Is she even that great of  person? Why does Gatsby want her so bad?

I found it interesting on how Gatsby wants to bring back the past to make Daisy fall in love with him again, he really would do anything for her but why?

WHAT GATSBY SAYS TO ME

I believe the central message of  the book " The Great Gatsby" is on how love can make you go crazy and want to bring back the past.

WHAT'S SO GREAT ABOUT GATSBY

I believe that in the book  "The Great Gatsby" Gatsby is not a terrible person, but is kind of dishonest. I feel like he does to much for Daisy, and puts himself in a lot of trouble. He is not great but he is good. The narrator Nick is honestly the only one that is sort of honest. I mean he can be dishonest because he knows stuff that can change stuff for people, but he just does not do anything about it. He is a humble person. I feel like Nick hangs out with dishonest people to see new perspectives. I think Nick respects the dishonest people he hangs out with because, he respects their ideas and rumors. He doesn't like getting into drama so he does not say anything about others. I think when the author says "They were careless people, Tom and Daisy- they smashed up things and creatures and then retreated back into their money or their vast carelessness or whatever it was that kept them together, and let other people clean up the mess they had made....". He means that they were people who did not care about others and only cared about themselves. that whatever mess they made, other people would have to pay the consequences they made, and they wouldn't care they would just go back to their money life. Just like when Daisy killed Mrs. Wilson, they let Gatsby suffer the consequences. I agree with how the author described Daisy and Tom, they are horrible people. I don't understand Daisy's behavior all she wants is money. Like if money was going to solve every little thing she did in life. I don't agree with her choices, I cannot believe she let Gatsby take the blame he had to pay for what she did. And she didn't even care! She's a horrible person and should have came clean.  I would not let my son/ brother/ friend date, because she is so dishonest and a horrible person. The last line of the book saying "So we beat on, boats against the current, borne back ceaselessly into the past."  I think this means that we can't go back to the past, it brings trouble.

GATSBY CHAPTER 9 NOTES AND THOUGHTS

In the book "The Great Gatsby" chapter 9  Gatsby had just passed  away and Nick was trying his very best to get a least one person to Gatsby's funeral. Nick couldn't get anyone, everyone didn't even care that Gatsby died. they were all so careless. the only person who showed up was Gatsby's father and the postman. After the funeral Nick was leaving to New York, because the East haunted him after Gatsby's death. Nick went to meet up with Jordan to say goodbye, he was half in love with her and angry, and very sorry for her. Then one October Nick saw Tom ,and he tried to avoid him but he ended up talking to him. Tom confessed on what he told Wilson, he said that he told Wilson that Gatsby owned the car. Tom already knew that Wilson was armed, so he had done all of this on purpose knowing Gatsby was going to end up dying. Tom had this all planned. Nick said that Daisy and Tom were careless people, that they smashed up things and creatures then went back to their money. That they let people clean up their mess.  I wished that Tom and Daisy got hat they deserved  that they got left with nothing, because it's not fair how someone has to pay for the mess they created.

GATSBY NOTES & THOUGHTS ON CHAPTER 8

In the book " The Great Gatsby" chapter 8, Gatsby tells Nick that he waited until 4 o'clock for Daisy to turn off her light. Gatsby tells Nick that  nothing happened that he just waited for Daisy to turn off the light. Nick tells Gatsby to go away before they trace the car Daisy drove to murder Myrtle.  He wouldn't consider it he couldn't possible leave daisy until he knew what she would do.  Gatsby says that when he went war  he made love to Daisy, that he felt as if they were married to each other. I feel like when the second character interrupted everything to say that he wanted to drain the pool was, that he wanted to drain everything Gatsby has lost. I am not sure how to explain it but like to drain all his feelings I guess, it's like a metaphor to me. I think it was so important for him to swim on his pool one last time, because it's his last time to swim on something he has not lost yet, I'm not sure. At the end of chapter 8 Gatsby's servants hear gun shots, but they do not know what it was. But in the end it turns out Mrs. Wilson's husband shot Gatsby because he thought that Myrtle was having an affair with Gatsby and that he was the one who murdered her. After she shot Gatsby he shot himself.

GATSBY CHAPTER 7 NOTES

In chapter 7 in the book "The Great Gatsby" Gatsby stops having parties because he thought that Daisy did not like his parties, he really cares about Daisy's opinion because he is in love with Daisy. He would really do anything for her.  Gatsby also fires his staff because he does not want them to gossip about everything that is going on. Gatsby hires people that have never been to West Egg Village. Wolfsheim hires them for Gatsby because he wanted to do something for them . I think their personalities are quite serious, I feel like they don't really get into drama. When Gatsby saw Daisy's daughter he didn't really even actually think she had one with Tom. Daisy asks her daughter what she  thinks about her friends, expecting her to say something about Gatsby. She says she looks nothing like Tom that it mostly looks like her.  In New York, Gatsby confronts Tom and tells him that Daisy never loved him, that she only loves him ( Gatsby). Tom kept saying that, that was not true. Gatsby said that Daisy has been waiting for him, because Gatsby used to be poor meaning that now that he is rich they could be together . Gatsby asks Daisy to tell him everything. Then Daisy says on how she could possibly love someone like him, she loved Gatsby once but not anymore. She loves Tom now. On the way too Long Island Daisy was driving Gatsby's car and ran over Tom's mistress Myrtle Wilson. Daisy ran over her bad, Myrtle ended up dying.  Then Gatsby had to take the car back to his house.

HAVE TO VERSUS WANT TO VERSUS GET TO

The difference between agreeing to complete work for each other, being told what to do for homework, and exploring what you want to in your way, is that you don't get to do stuff at your own pace. Also you cannot do stuff you want your own way. Except when you are exploring stuff you want in your own way. Doing stuff your own way is sometimes so much better because you get to do stuff at your pace and do stuff by yourself without having, to  do it the way the other person wants to. Maybe even doing something different that's isn't like mandatory is much better because you get to explore things you like. Personally I like doing stuff my own way and exploring things I am interested in, I dislike having to do stuff someone else's way and it being mandatory. I like learning by myself most of the time.

GATSBY NOTES AND THOUGHTS: CHAPTER 6

Gatsby's real name was James Gatz but he changed his name when he was seventeen. Gatsby threw a party and invited rich people and even invited Daisy, Tom, and Nick.  Gatsby threw a party so that Daisy would like him. Gatsby told Tom he knew Daisy, and Tom was wondering how he knew her. Tom thought that Daisy shouldn't be walking the streets alone. Tom called Gatsby a bootlegger, because he was just rich like the rest of the people at the party. Tom was basically talking bad about Gatsby. Daisy stood up for Gatsby, she said the people at the party were really interesting. Tom said that it looked like Daisy was not having a good time because of her face expression when the some lady was talking to her. Tom mentioned that he wanted to know who Gatsby was and what he does. Daisy then told him what Gatsby did, and then they both left. Gatsby really thought Daisy did not like the party. Gatsby wanted to change the past or bring back the past of him and Daisy together. Gatsby gets the idea that he can repeat the past. I believe that Gatsby is really in love with Daisy, but he should not be trying that hard. If they really loved each other Daisy would leave Tom to be with Gatsby. I feel like Daisy is also still in love with Gatsby but just doesn't really want to show it. I also feel like they keep getting Nick involved when it should just be Gatsby and Daisy solving their problems to be together. Because, then they are going to get Nick in the middle and then get him into trouble.

NOTES AND THOUGHTS ON GATSBY CHAPTER 5

Nick invited Daisy and Gatsby over for tea. Gatsby was scared that he was so pale, when Daisy got in Gatsby was not there he had gotten out the back and went through the front door as if had just gotten there. It had been 5 years since they had not seen each other. There was tension between them. Then Gatsby took them to his house. He bought the house so that he could see Daisy's from there. Gatsby was giving them like a tour of the house. If Daisy liked the house so did he. Daisy was crying over the Gatsby's shirts but in reality she was crying over him. At the end Gatsby and Daisy stay alone at Gatsby's house, and Nick leaves them alone. They were not even paying attention to Nick anymore.

HOW YOU KNOW WHAT I KNOW

I believe that we can show what we learned on what we read, by posting on our blog and describing what we read and the important details or facts we got out of it. If we did not understand what we read we could post on what we did not understand, and people could help us get a better understanding out of it by commenting on our blog post.

GATSBY TEST GRADES

Elizabeth: 8/8

Lily: 8/8

Berardita: 7/8  #5 was that Nick described Gatsby as a florid and corpulent person in his middle years.

TESTING UNDERSTANDING FROM THE OTHER SIDE

The questions from the test that I made, are important because it basically sums up the chapters. They also tell us important stuff that the characters bring up throughout the story. One of the persons who took my test didn't answer #5, probably because it was a little difficult to find. Some people also had some trouble figuring out who Mr. Wolfshiem is. So I had to explain that it was Gatsby's friend.  The questions I had looked like the people knew what was happening and understood who the characters were.

MY MOM ON MY BIG QUESTION

During the weekend all I kept thinking about was the government spying on me through my camera phone.  I have not really done more research on my question because I have been busy, but I feel like they can even hear us right now at this moment. Apparently calling a friend gives the government all the other person's information.

NICK'S CARDINAL VIRTUE

Cardinal virtue is like a religion thing, it's like the person who chooses the next pope.  I think this makes us think that Nick is like a saint, I mean he did watch his cousin's Husband cheat on her. But like it makes us think that he is the only honest person there. His ideas are supported, because he keeps his judgements to himself, and it does not seem like he is a terrible person who makes assumptions about everyone.  I think Nick is being humble because he doesn't seem like those rude type of people. Nick tells us on how he feels like him being too honest is a sin.

WHO ARE THE PEOPLE IN YOUR NEIGHBORHOOD/ GATSBY CH 4 READING NOTES

At nine o'clock In late July  it was the first time Gatsby called on Nick.
Something was making Gatsby nervous, he was feeling insecure about something.

NOW ITS A PARTY/GATSBY CHAPTER 3

The rumors Nick heard was that he might of  killed a man and that he was a German spy,
Nick calls Gatsby a Belasco.
Nick initially imagines Gatsby as a florid and corpulent person in his middle years.
Nick finds out that Jordan is a cheater.
They plan to go on a hydroplane the next day.
Nick says " I am one of the few honest people that I have ever known" I think he said that because he does not fit in with the rest of the crowd, everyone in his crowd is telling stories and he is just being himself.

Gatsby pp 38- 49

In the story "The Great Gatsby" page 41, Tom Buchanan broke Mrs. Wilson's nose because she kept saying Daisy so much. They were all drunk at that time. Tom Buchanan thought that Mrs. Wilson did not have the right to say Daisy's name, so they were discussing about it face to face, so that is when she started saying it over and over. Tom reacted fast and broke her nose. Nick got invited to Gatsby's party, he was alone for a few minutes and then found Jordan Baker.

Gatsby pages 12-26

In dinner the phone rang and tom was talking to his other girl, they wentt to go listen, Nick was surprised
people don't seem happy , they are always drinking, and daisy is self absorbed, there is an affaire.

WHAT'S IN MY BIG QUESTION FOR ME

Talking about my big question will help me remove an itch that I have had. Many people on social media always talk about the government spying on us, and I have always wanted to know if it is true. Famous YouTuber's like Shane Dawson have talked about stuff like this, it makes me feel so creeped out.  I have never really gotten into deep with that question because I never really thought of it as something I should do research on, until the opportunity came when we had to ask any question we would like and do research on it. Doing research has given me some evidence to it, but not enough. Hopefully fully figuring out if this is true will finally remove my itch.

Meet Nick

I think Nick is from Connecticut, he went to Yale which is in New Haven. He wrote for the Yale news. He lives in a modern home and pays $80 for rent. Nick is a person who is sort of lonely, he considers people he doesn't really talk to his friends. Nick likes keeping his criticism to himself and not saying it out loud, well that was a piece of advice he got. Nick lives near Gatsby, he gets too see his beautiful home, it's his view from his home. Daisy is Nick's second cousin.

DARK PATTERNS

When I read the article " How Amazon, EBay and other online stores try to trick you into buying" I was very interested. When I would look at stuff online for example "Shein" it would like cross off the original price and put a less cheaper price. I thought that was a very good deal, but I would never really not even end up buying  anything. I remember if you liked, signed up with an account it would give you coupons that were like $5 or up to $20 off , when you purchased like $50 or more on any items. It looks like a good deal but it really isn't. I knew they were already tricking people so that they could make more money, but I mean every store does that so it didn't really bother me.

BEHIND THE IGNITE TALKS

When I asked Robert on how he came up with the big question which was " What's inside a black hole?"  he said "Its because it scares me, I thinks the earth will fall in one and I would like to know what its inside of one."

Then I asked Bernardita the same question, her big question was "Is there life after death?" and she said " people say there is hell and there is heaven, some people have almost died and have been to heaven and they came back to explain how heaven was like, so people could imagine it."

I found their thought process very interesting, I never really thought that people have been thinking about that.

I'M IGNITED

The Big questions that I was interested in is "Is there life after death?" I have also wondered about this one for a very long time and I have always wanted to know. I mean there is certain religions that say that there is and all that other stuff. But I there really. I mean there is so much to that questions that makes you think so much.  Another question that I was interested in was " what is inside a black hole?" I also would like to know more about that one, because it seems like something very interesting to discover. There must be something interesting there right?  All the Big questions in class were very interesting, but those were the two that I really liked.

HOPEPUNK

Hopepunk is a literary and artistic movement that celebrates the pursuit of positive aims in the face of adversity. It's a narrative message that means "Keep fighting, no matter what", because all fictional characters are fighting for something. Hopepunk is part of a wider culture. It is toward optimism and positivity. The authors think it matters because they know that all fictional characters are fighting for something, and they know that they never stop fighting until they do something.

DOWN THE RABBIT HOLE

In my American Literature class we started to read an article on John Steinbeck, we read half of it in class and I read the rest at home. In class we talked about how Steinbeck was writing during WWII and other harsh times in life.

In class he mentioned on how life has conflicts, that's what makes it interesting. Also on how what makes things like more good is having evil. That's what Steinbeck was also trying to say.

In my opinion I actually agree with them, because imagine just having a life with no conflicts, I mean that sounds great. But, there's nothing interesting. My teacher gave us an example, imagine reading a novel where the character is named Bill, he wakes up kisses his wife in the forehead tucks his kids in, and goes to work. Then he comes back home eats dinner shower goes to sleep. Imagine the novel just being about that, there is nothing interesting. Sometimes evil can just make things better.

When Dr. Preston gave us two links that take you to the same article I chose " what makes us happy and sad" I chose that one because I found it interesting and I wanted to know about it. " the article on John Steinbeck" just seemed to simple and boring to me.

NOTES FROM TODAY'S LECTURE

Today in my American Literature class my teacher played a video for us on Martin Luther King Jr. and asked us if we could find any Ethos, Pathos, and Logos.

Ethos means, qualities of a speaker/writer that we can trust. Pathos means, quality of emotion. Last but not least Logos, it means reason.

As we watched, I saw how MLK used Pathos in his speech, he was showing a lot of emotion. He looked very passionate, and put his heart into it. I also saw a lot of Ethos in his speech, he made us feel like we could trust him given all his statements. MLK gave us his reason, also know as Logos. He gave us a why.

" withering injustice"- MLKJR this means that he felt that they were being humiliated in their lack of fairness.

Martin Luther King Jr.'s speech was very touching to me, because on how well he spoke, and how he made us feel like we could trust him. You can even see that thousands of people trusted him too. He gave African Americans freedom. MLK gave them rights, and peace. I was very impressed and very touched by his passionate speech.

THE WORLD IS MY LIBARY

I was in search of a novel, and I stumbled upon a website with free online novels. I found a novel that I recognized because I had seen the movie and for sure knew I would want to read the novel, because every movie is different than the story. The novel was called " The Fault In Our Stars" by John Green.  What appealed to me was how it said that the characters had chemistry between them, and I love romance novels because I find them very interesting. I also researched 2 short stories the first one caught my eye because it was called " A Dead Woman's Secret " by Guy De Manpassant. I also love reading mystery and like thriller, so that one was very interesting. What seemed appealing to me was the title, it was kind of creepy. Another short story was " The Terrible Old Man" by H.P. Lovecraft. Something about that short story caught my attention I am not sure what, but it was the title. That one seemed to be like a thriller to me. To find these stories and novel, I just went to duckduckgo.com and searched up novels, then found one that I liked then I searched up short stories and found them on americanliterature.com.

American Literature

I believe American Literature is the way a person adapts to their written work, and is able to express themselves through it. I can contribute to it by being able to adapt to my writing and express myself through it.
